David Cooke has been a professional sculptor since graduating in 1992 from Leeds Metropolitan University with a degree in 3D Design. Since then he has tackled many animal subjects – such as crabs, dinosaurs and gorillas, but has tended to specialize in reptiles and birds.

From his studio at Meltham Mills in West Yorkshire, UK, David Cooke creates a wide variety of sculptures in varying styles and media.
David tries to create sculptures with life and character. He produces large sculptures that are suitable for a life outdoors, and a range of small indoor pieces.

In 2011 David displayed his creations at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show, Delamore Arts, Fresh Air, The Wildlife Art Gallery, Lavenham, The Chelsea Flower Show, and Art In Action. David currently sells twice a year through – A Summers Place Auctions at Billinghurst, Surrey.

David has worked on a number commissions for centre’s open to the public, such as a giant mole and beetles for ‘Creatures of the Underworld’ at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales. In 2009 he created Belemnites and a dinosaur skull for the Great North Museum, Newcastle. He has exhibited at some of the major UK ceramic and wildlife art shows, such as Art In Clay at Hatfield House, Potfest In Park, Penrith and also at the annual Society of Wildlife Artists Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London
Previously David worked primarily in clay, but In 2011 he learnt how to cast in bronze, and now has a range of both one-off and limited edition bronze pieces. This has allowed David to attempt creations that would have been in-practical in ceramic. As a result his recent work is increasingly abstract or non-representational as he explores the possibilities that this new medium allows.
