I went back to university to take a ceramics degree at Harrow, University of Westminster and loved every minute of the course. At the end, I left London and with my husband went to live in Penrith, Cumbria where I have a studio and exhibit my work outdoors or in unusual places. I use mainly fine bone china as when it is high fired it is very strong and pieces such as dead flies or cockroaches are robust enough and can be picked up and handled by visitors.
I have shown my work in Roman forts, riverside walks, hillsides, ancient goals, Carlisle Cathedral, Wray Castle NT and old churches.
I like using insects and other small creatures as inspiration and for my work. My work does not really sell – unless anyone, for example, would like over 400 dead flies. I prefer to give things away when the exhibition has finished.
Christine uses Fine Bone China when creating her ceramic pieces.
