David William Sampson

David William Sampson is a ceramicist based at The Long Eaton Art Rooms in Derbyshire.

Working with Audrey Blackman Porcelain, David creates sculptural figures known as his travelling orphanage with expressive, childlike forms that embrace imperfection through cracks, patchy slips, and broken features.

Each piece challenges traditional ceramic ideals and invites emotional response, often sitting between playful and unsettling. From clowns to princes, every figure holds its own personality and story. David’s work celebrates the imperfectly-perfect, sparking curiosity, compassion, and conversation in equal measure.
