Nestled in the heart of Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, Pollyanna China has been a proud torchbearer for British ceramics for over 30 years. Founded in 1988 by Pauline Walpole and her late husband Robert, the company has grown from humble beginnings in a small factory to a thriving, three-storey production site that now employs a talented team of 23.
Still very much a family-run business, Pauline is joined by her sons Peter and Michael, who continue to honour the values and traditions at the heart of Pollyanna’s success. Under their brand Walpole, the company creates premium, bespoke bone china giftware and tableware – proudly 'Made in England' and found in prestigious historical sites, hotels, and restaurants across the UK and beyond.
By blending traditional ceramic artistry with cutting-edge technology, Pollyanna China is not only preserving Stoke-on-Trent’s heritage but also redefining it for the modern world.
We sat down with Director Michael Walpole, one of the founding sons, to talk about the company’s journey, its dedication to craftsmanship, and what it means to carry forward a proud family legacy in the heart of the Potteries.
