On Monday evening, the British ceramics industry took an important step forward as MPs gathered in Parliament to debate the petition "Support the Ceramics Industry and protect British manufacturing jobs and skills."
The petition, which attracted more than 109,000 signatures, called for greater support for the ceramics sector, particularly around industrial energy costs, which continue to place significant pressure on manufacturers across the UK. The debate brought together MPs from across the political spectrum to discuss the challenges facing one of Britain's oldest and most important manufacturing industries.
This wasn't simply another parliamentary debate. It was an opportunity to ensure the voices of manufacturers, suppliers, artists and the wider ceramics community were heard at the highest level.
As a company proudly manufacturing clay in Stoke-on-Trent since 1979, we know first-hand the importance of protecting British manufacturing, preserving specialist skills and investing in the future of our industry. Ceramics remains a cornerstone of our local economy, supporting thousands of skilled jobs while producing world-class products recognised across the globe.
Reaching the debate stage was only possible because of the incredible support shown by the ceramics community. More than 109,000 people signed the petition, demonstrating just how passionately people feel about safeguarding the future of British ceramics.
While the debate itself is one milestone rather than the end of the journey, it represents another important opportunity to keep ceramics firmly on the national agenda. We welcome every conversation that raises awareness of the challenges facing our sector and helps build momentum for meaningful support.
We'd like to thank everyone who signed the petition, contacted their MP or helped raise awareness of the campaign. Your support has helped ensure that British ceramics continues to have a voice in Parliament.
Together, we'll continue championing an industry that has shaped communities, supported generations of skilled craftspeople and remains an essential part of British manufacturing.
