Paul Smith is a full-time sculptor based in North Derbyshire, creating bold, semi-abstract ceramic animals inspired by ancient sculpture, Inuit and folk art, and the natural world. Working with PF520 Ashraf Hanna Professional, his hand-built forms combine simplified details with expressive, layered surfaces using slips, engobes, oxides and underglazes. Paul’s work celebrates the character and energy of animals, particularly horses, cattle and larger mammals, creating pieces with the feeling of treasured objects shaped by time.
