ARTIST INSPIRATION

Imogen Charleston

Imogen is a dedicated environmentalist, a theme that consistently shapes her ceramic practice. She explores this through various techniques, including slip casting and hand-building. Her work ranges from narrative-driven pieces, such as Dying for Dinner, to innovative use of waste materials in Single Measures.

Imogen likes to alter forms by carving. She creates her own glazes from local foraged materials including ash, clay, and rocks which are all prepared by hand.

Recently, her focus has shifted to sourcing natural materials, gathering local clays, rocks, and plants to use as raw ingredients. These elements are incorporated into slips and glazes for her Hand & Earth range of functional ware, forming the foundation of an ongoing research project.
