V9G Stoneware Clay Body is a high-quality modelling clay that builds upon the renowned characteristics of V9A Stoneware by incorporating additional grog.

This enhanced formulation provides increased resistance to cracking and warping, ensuring your ceramic creations remain robust and stable through various stages of drying and firing. Composed of premium Shropshire and South Staffordshire Fire Clays, along with finely graded, dust-free grog, V9G offers a smooth, versatile texture that is easy to work with and ideal for a wide range of ceramic techniques.

 Under oxidising and reduction firing conditions, V9G maintains excellent performance, and when wood fired, it develops a distinctive toasty finish, adding a warm, rustic charm to your work.

Iain Shield

Iain Shield is a stoneware potter based in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, creating one-off functional pieces under Shield Studio Pottery. Working with his favourite V9G clay, Iain throws forms that celebrate earth tones, satin sheens, and the natural texture of the clay body. His ash-based glazes produce beautifully unpredictable, pastel surfaces influenced by firing and application methods. Each pot is made slowly and with over ten years of experience, Iain balances pottery alongside family life and teaching, continually driven by craft, creativity, and the honest freedom clay brings.
