Dune LoStone Now Fully Vitrifies from 1120°C

Our technical team never really leaves things alone.

Even after a clay has launched, testing and development continue behind the scenes to see where improvements can be made.

The latest result of that ongoing work is an improved recipe for Dune LoStone, which is now fully vitrified from just 1120°C.

Same Dune. Better Recipe.

Dune has been part of the LoStone collection since its launch, offering makers a warm, natural stoneware body within our lower-firing range.

Following further development and testing by our technical team, we have now refined the Dune recipe.

The improvements provide:

  • Full vitrification from 1120°C

  • A wider firing range

  • Improved consistency

Lowering the vitrification point even further gives makers greater flexibility when choosing their firing temperature, while maintaining the characteristics that make Dune, Dune.

Why Vitrification Matters

Vitrification refers to the process that occurs during firing as a clay body becomes increasingly dense and less porous.

Reaching the appropriate level of vitrification is particularly important with stoneware, where low water absorption and the resulting fired properties are key characteristics of the finished body.

LoStone was originally developed to achieve these properties at significantly lower temperatures than traditional stoneware bodies, and continued development of Dune has allowed us to push its vitrification point even lower.

At 1120°C, Dune now demonstrates just how far lower-temperature stoneware technology can be developed.

Continuing to Develop LoStone

Product development doesn't necessarily stop when something reaches the shelf.

Our technical team continually tests materials, recipes and firing performance to identify opportunities to improve the clays we manufacture.

The latest changes to Dune are a good example of that approach: taking an existing LoStone body and refining its formulation to offer a wider firing range, greater consistency and an even lower vitrification point.

This is something we will continue to explore across the rest of the LoStone range
